heather’s heat and flavor

I have to devote at least one entry to this mom and pop spice store. One because I love to support locally owner places, but also, because they deserve it! Since Heather’s opened in Legacy (now there is one in Crocker Park, too) I have made a conscious effort to stop buying spices at the grocery store unless I’m in a real pinch. I cook a lot and always try to challenge myself with new dishes and flavors. Since I’ve started buying spices at Heather’s, I can honestly say I have noticed a difference in the flavor of my dishes. What a difference when you buy fresh spices/herbs versus the grocery store version. If you haven’t been to Heather’s, it’s small store filled with every spice you can possibly image and never heard of, along with more types of the basics like salt and pepper then you knew existed. The smell is strong and the staff is knowledgable and very friendly. They also carry a crazy assortment of hot sauces and some other fun gourmet things. And it’s all reasonably priced. The only challenge: organizing my spice drawer with all these little spice bags. I need to get containers for every one but have been to lazy to do that.

Smooth looking blog, thanks for sharing your experiances with us. I’m stoping in from your post on the cleveland.com food and wine forum. I have my own blog, i hope you’ve been http://www.viewfromthekitchen.blogspot.com if not please stop by. It is very re-freshing to see someone with a posative attitude toward clevelands culinary scene, a scene i’m personally working in, and working hard to improve just like you and your blog. thanks again

Oh good, a post that doesn’t contain the word “husband.” That’s one in a row for you. Nice work.

My husband loves that place. He’s a huge hot sauce afficianado. I’ve never been there but now you’ve piqued my interest.

PS… I agree with Michaels comment too. A lot of my friends are so negative when it comes to a lot of things about Cleveland but I love it here and it’s nice to find others who feel the same.

My boyfriend has bought SO MANY bottles of bbq sauce and jars of salsa from this place, haha, all are *amazing* but we haven’t even gotten to try the spices yet! I’m excited to try cooking with them. The women there are so sweet too, and really work with you on what to try.
