flying fig in october gourmet

I used the time on the plane trip out to Seattle this weekend to catch up on my foodie and gossip magazines. What seems to be a theme of major publications recognizing Cleveland for its culinary contributions continued in the October issue of Gourmet, this time with recognition going to Flying Fig. The article focuses on America’s best farm-to-table restaurants and lists the best of the best in a number of categories ranging from seasonal to urban to meat rules. Flying Fig was recognized in the casual category:

“The place calls itself a ‘small eatery and bar,’ a play on chef/owner Karen Small’s name, but it’s a deceptive description. The food is actually big and bold, from the goat-cheese mousse with strawberry preserves to the crisp chicken livers sweetened with dates.”

The article on Afghani food was by a Cleveland writer–Kristin Ohlson.
