Geraci’s has been around for decades, and not much has changed since my first visit there 25 years ago. Oversized, cushy booths, friendly staff, a long and narrow aisle, and a partially open kitchen – it’s your classic, busy, family-run restaurant. And they still don’t accept credit or debit!
When you ask someone to name their favorite pizza in town, it’s almost a guarantee most people will rattle off Geraci’s – on the east side anyway. This is what they are known for and this is what we ordered – a large deluxe, with peppers, mushrooms, sausage, pepperoni, cheese and onions. If I had my choice, I would have preferred plain with mushrooms or ricotta or even pineapple. But I was vetoed and ended up picking off half my toppings (as much as I enjoy various salumis, I have never liked plain pepperoni and don’t care for sausage as a topping, either).
Even picked over, the pizza was still good. The crust is fairly thin, a bit doughy in parts and crunchy at the end. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, not even top 5, but it is enjoyable and always good to go back to those places that just make you feel good.
