We just returned from our first visit at 87 West 2. (Second, if stopping by for a simple glass of wine for 30 minutes counts.) I was highly disappointed. The red wine choices were good, but served too warm (and I do know what temp at which wines should be served.) I ordered a glass of pinot noir, which was an incredibly small amount. (And yes, again, I do know that with finer wines, the entire glass is not filled, but this was a rip-off.) We had the calamari, which was pretty good, and a flatbread pizza with chorizo, red peppers, and avocado. It was bland. Quite frankly, nothing with chorizo should be bland! But this was. Suffice it to say, I will not be returning.

Laura

I agree with your comments on the odd layout. Unfortunately, my friend and I felt guilty punching out old ladies so instead we stood awkwardly in the center of the room trying to balance our coats, purses and wine in both hands, hoping for someone to vacate their seats so we could pounce on it like scavengers.

In addition, my friend and I ordered the same glass of wine; however, the bottle on hand only filled one glass. We again stood awkwardly at the bar for over 10 minutes waiting on a new bottle to arrive.

This of course was all during their soft open so I will definitely give them a second chance next time I'm in the area!

I walked by this place yesterday. It looks awesome from the outside. I do see what you mean with less than optimal seating area. I think my friends and I are going to try it in two weeks. I'll let you know if I have to steal a seat or not.

Nice review. Ditto on the nachos if this is the same recipe they serve at Gamekeeper's. A couple of simple changes would make them exponentially better.

Thanks for stopping by my site. I do hope you make the tiramisu for your husband.Invite some friends as the recipe is company-sized.

I really enjoy your chef interviews. I am adding your site to my "Appetzing" sidebar category.

Best, Heidi

Great description of our night. Anytime you want to go back just let us know. I agree with you on the nachos, big disappointment and you know how much I love nachos! Next time, I might want to try one of the martinis, they looked pretty tasty. Also would be nice to sit infront of the outdoor fireplace when the weather breaks, probably have to arrive by 6am for a seat!:)
