cleveland international film fest – opening night

Our friends invited us to opening night of the 32nd annual Cleveland International Film Fest last night. In the past, we’ve seen some pretty good movies on opening night (as well as throughout the fest), including Akeelah and the Bee.

The movie was Then She Found Me, based on the book by Elinor Lipman. The impressive cast included Helen Hunt (who also directed it), Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler and Colin Firth, who happens to be one of my favorite actors.

I absolutely loved this movie – and I’m not even a Helen Hunt fan! It was funny, touching, well-written and the acting was top-notch. If you have the opportunity to see this indie flick, definitely try to – it’s surprisingly good and worth your time. Prior to last night, I admit I wasn’t familiar with the author. But after seeing this movie, I’d definitely like to learn more about her other books.

The film fest, which takes place at Tower City, goes until March 16.

Ha! Actually, we wanted to go to Superior Pho, but were pressed for time. So, we grabbed a quick sandwich near us at the American Tavern. But, that would make for a great weekend – dinner downtown and a movie at the fest. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Even though this post wasn’t about food, the fest is a great Cleveland thing that we’re lucky to have – and I’m all about supporting Cleveland.
