cooking classes at tri-c

I just read in Joe Crea’s column that some of my favorite local chefs, including Jonathon Sawyer, will be teaching classes at Tri-C’s Metro Campus. According to Crea, chefs including Brandt Evans, Brian Doyle, Jeff Fisher as well as Sawyer, will lead classes in topics ranging from regional Mexican and Chinese favorites to knife skills or grilled flatbreads. Classes will emphasize basic skills, hands-on food preparation and, of course, some serious sampling. Evening courses are offered from 6 to 9 p.m. weekdays, with weekend programs starting at 1:30 or 2:30 p.m. Saturdays. Most individual classes cost $75.

Crea also mentioned that Dante’s pastry chef, Wendy Thompson, will soon be leaving her post to open a bakery in Tremont on Professor, along with pastry sous-chef SynDee Klingenberg. The shop will be called A Cookie and a Cupcake and will feature custom-designed cakes plus cupcakes, cookies, brownies and other confections.

Here’s hoping the chocolate and peanut putter dessert currently on the menu makes its way to their shop! That is one of the best dessets in town. I’m a big Thompson fan, so I will definitely be a customer at their new shop. Good luck!
