vintage ohio – celebrate ohio wines

Want to spend an afternoon with 30,000 fellow foodies and wine lovers sampling regional wine, listening to music and enjoying tasty treats? Ok, maybe not 30,000 all at once but that’s how many people come out to enjoy one of our area’s best events over the course of two days – Vintage Ohio.

Vintage Ohio takes place on August 6 and 7 on the beautiful grounds of Lake Farmpark in Kirtland. This year, 20 wineries will be on hand offering over 150 vintages for sampling. There is something for everyone, from world-class wines like pinot gris, chardonnay, riesling and cabernet franc, to more fun-to-drink fruit wines made with fresh strawberries, peaches and blackberries that might appeal those that are newer to wine. From red, white, blush, dry and sweet, there’s a wine for everyone and the fun is sampling your way to discovering your likes and dislikes.

The people behind Vintage Ohio work hard to bring together the best of Ohio wines and the people behind them. I’ve gotten to know these folks a bit over the past year and their dedication, passion and pride for Ohio wine is quite contagious! Participating wineries include:

In addition to wine, there will be three stages for live entertainment, including jazz, reggae, oldies and light rock. Friday night will conclude with a fireworks display. Throughout the rolling hills and tall oak trees of Lake Farmpark, Loretta Paganini’s School of Cooking will offer a dozen food demonstrations and tastings. Additionally, stands will include ribs, crab cakes, gourmet cheeses, crepes and more. There;s also family games and wine education classes sponsored by the American Wine Society focusing on ice wines, zinfandel and Ohio’s wine trails.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $27 at the gate. Designated driver tickets are  $10 and children under 18 are $3. There’s also a two-day taster ticket for $40. Cleveland Foodie readers can get a special discounted rate of $19 by using code 2010clfd. Click here to order tickets.

Want to go? I’m giving away 5 pairs of tickets.  Just leave a comment sharing either your favorite local winery to visit or favorite local wine to drink. I’ll pick winners by Friday, July 9. Cheers!

We have winners! The lucky numbers are: 14, 27, 8, 9, and 32. Please email me your address so I can mail out your two tickets. Thanks and congrats!

Hey, I've never been to any winery, ever! Maybe this is a good place for me to start.

Marietta Wine Cellars tasty and always a nice place to visit when I am "down south" so to speak.

There are so many great ones - Ferrante has been my local choice lately, however. Its great that so many shops and grocery stores carry it these days!

Have only been there once, but Wolf Creek Winery is such a lovely place, with a great view when you sit outdoors.

The local winery I enjoy visiting the most is Heineman's on Put-in-Bay. You are sure to meet neat people from all over when you take the time to enjoy a bottle at the winery.

I love going to this event as it always falls right around my birthday!

I haven't had a chance to visit the winery, but I like Mon Ami wines. They are a light, inexpensive alternative when you are having a number of people over and don't want to break the bank when you have to buy more than a couple bottles of wine. Their Rose and the Cellar Master Red are my fav's.

For those of us that you don't pick thanks soo much for the great discount code!

I love going to so many local wineries, each for a different reason, the wine itself, the view, the building, the friends. It all just depends.

Anyway, I guess my favorite at this time would have to be The Winey at Wolf Creek in Norton, and my husband who doesnt like wine, enjoyed their White Lies and I really have enjoyed their Exodus.

My favorite Ohio Wine is a delightful, fruity brew that my friends made and bottled themselves with apples and blueberries!
Yum!

There is a great winery in Medina county called Jilbert Winery - for those who like the really sweet stuff, they have a great Honey wine.

I like Ferrante's American Riesling.

I haven't had the chance to go to any wineries yet, which is why I'd love to go to this! But my bf loves going to The Winey at Wolf Creek in Norton.

I love sitting on the patio at Ferrante's.

Going out to Christ Winery in my hometown of Avon Lake is always fun.

I absolutely love Ferrante! It is a blast to sit out on the patio and listen to live music in the summer! It definitely holds a special place in my heart...

I took a wine class when I went to Kent State so I had the chance to visit a lot of local wineries, but my favorite is Ferrante. Their food is so good and I just love their 2007 Golden Bunches.

I like visiting the wineries on Put-In Bay and Kelley's Islands. Its fun to rent a golf cart and drive around the islands stopping for a glass of champagne outside to enjoy the people watching and nice weather.

debonne has a great patio and good wine

I am brand new to Cleveland...just having moved from Nashville, TN. I am very into supporting local producers and would LOVE to attend this event to find some great local OHIO wines. Pick me, Pick me! ;-)

I have not really been to any of the wineries near here, shame on me, but I do like a wine from Ferrante that a friend always brings over!

Thorn Creeek winery in Aurora is really nice and you don't have to drive to the middle of no where to get there.

I'm newer to the area so I haven't had a chance to explore all the local wineries, but I can say we had a great time one Saturday at Debonne. Between the winery and the Cellar Rats brewery, all of our friends were able to imbibe their drink of choice.

We just moved back to the area from Oregon, where we were spoiled by amazing wines. We haven't had a chance to explore the wineries here yet, which means Grape and Granary is my favorite by default! Can't wait to go to Vintage and try others.

I absolutely love Harpersfield!! Their Pinot Noir is amazing and the atmosphere is so charming!!

Oh it's so hard to choose. In the summer I love the fruity wines from Breitenbach. Their Dandelion is so unique. But for all around favorite, South River Trinity. The winery itself is so pretty and they have some great red blends.

mmmm, the Chambourcin is really delicios at the Old Firehouse Winery. So good and so red.

I haven't tried any Ohio wines other than the super fruity wines - definitely not my style. That being said, I've heard this is a great event and would love to find some local wines I do like.

Klingshirn Winery is right in my backyard. Not a fan of most of their wine (ice wine being the exception) but they make great grape juice!

My favorite is Debonne Vineyards. They always have events, beautiful grounds, and really down to earth people working there. The wine is great too!

I love South River. The building is an old church and the grounds are beautiful. Very peaceful to sit out, drink some wine and absorb your surroundings. We were just there last weekend and hit a few of the wineries around there. In the summer I love crisp white wines. The Dry Riesling at South River was very good. We also enjoyed Harmony at Debonne, which is a blend of Chardonnay, Merlot and Riesling. Hope to see you at Vintage Ohio!

I'm not usually one for sweet wines, but sometimes Breitenbach fruit wines are PERFECT for a nice night out on a backporch with the girls.

It's hard to pick just one! Grand River has a killer patio and a red that i actually enjoy (while i prefer red wine to white, i find the reds that grow in this area are not my fave), but nothing can beat the ambiance of South River!

Vermilion Valley Vineyards is a hidden gem! Dedicated to sustainability and green practices. Love the Riesling.

I love the wine and ambiance at Matus Winery in Lorain County!!

My favorite is Debonne, where I had my wedding reception nearly two years ago. Great people, great location, and great wine.

Hard to choose my favorite local winery because there are so many good ones! But I will say Debonne because of their awesome summer jazz programs on weekends in the summer! Nothing better than hanging out having great wine (and their Cellar Rats beer is great too!) and listening to great music! Is it wine o'clock yet?

I love to visit Debonne Vineyards. There always seems to be something going on there. Even in the winter! Plus, there is nothing more I like doing on a cold day then getting all cozy at Debonne with a steaming glass of mulled wine. I also enjoy their Cabernet Franc during both the winter and the summer!

I am IN! I loved St Joseph's wines! They remind me of the great Oregon wines that I like so much.
