my kind of gift

Last fall when I participated in a round table on food on Around Noon, I mentioned that if I ever won the lottery, one of the first things I’d do is hire Brandon Chrostowski. Sorry, Zack. I’m not sure if I’d keep him all to myself and have him create daily wine and cheese pairings for me, or if I’d open a small wine and cheese bar that he’d run…

Last week, I once again turned 29 (or 8 according to my daughter). We have a lot going on – new house, work, kids, so I wasn’t expecting much. I certainly wasn’t expecting to come home to this:

Jamie called Brandon at L’Albatros and brought a little (er, a lot) of the my favorite part of the restaurant home. Yes, I have the best husband ever. Anyone that knows me well, knows this is an absolutely perfect gift. And one that I’m still enjoying even as I write this.

Post cheese indulgence, we went to Jekyll’s for a few cocktails. I have a love hate relationship with this place. I love the patio and views (and that it’s now walking distance from our new house). But I don’t care for the food, which is why our visits there are typically centered around alcohol.

Yes, for a birthday that was really just going to be another day this year,  it turned into one of the most special days – for the cheese, and so much more!

I wonder what 30 will hold…

What a birthday surprise! Sounds like it was a wonderful evening – happy belated birthday. I’m celebrating my (actual!) 29th birthday next weekend and this is a great reminder that I need to make reservations for my birthday dinner at Parallax. So thanks for that!
