fab food show giveaway, culinary challenge + cavs players – oh my

The 5th annual Fabulous Food Show is next weekend. Are you going? If you’d like to and haven’t yet purchased tickets, be sure to use code CLEVEFOODIE to save $3 per ticket. Or, keep reading to see how you can win one of four pairs of tickets I’ll be giving away.

This year’s show, held November 12-14 at the I-X Center, features celebrity chefs Giada De Laurentiis, Guy Fieri, Alton Brown, Anne Burrell and of course, Michael Symon. Aside from the chefs, there are also 225 exhibiting food-related companies, the Main Kitchen Theatre and Culinary Celebration Theatre, Taste of Neighborhood Stage, Grand Tasting Pavilion, Sweet Street and 100 ongoing demonstrations on six different stages.

But perhaps what I am personally most excited about is the Sub-Zero/Wolf Culinary Classic which benefits Autism Speaks, hosted by Symon on Sunday 4pm. Myself, along with the Plain Dealer’s Joe Crea and Gary Sitton with Clos Du Bois have the amazing opportunity to judge Dante Boccuzzi, Jonathon Sawyer, Steve Schimoler paired with a few celebrity sous chefs, aka CAVS players J.J. Hickson, Joey Graham and Jamario Moon.

The competition will take place in the Main Kitchen Theatre. Each team will race against the clock to prepare: an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The not-so-secret ingredient: Ohio Apples.

Want to go to the show? I have four pairs of tickets to attend any of the three days. Just leave a comment between now and noon on November 11 telling me who would be your celebrity sous chef.

My wife is my number one sous chef, but she’s only a celebrity in my heart :) So if I had to pick a celebrity sous chef today, it would definitely be Peyton Hillis, after that drubbing he administered to the Patriots today! Go Browns, go Cleveland, go Autism Speaks! Good luck with your judging.

I have to join the legion who’d pick Michael Symon for a celebrity sous chef. In a competition, the combination of great chef with Iron Chef is pretty hard to beat.

Are you kidding me?? Michael Symon—-HAND’S DOWN! His food is down to earth with a twist! I haven’t seen any breakfast recipes from him yet and can bet he makes a killer breakfast sandwich! …. I moved to Ohio from CT 3 years ago and can definitely say Michael Symon has made me love Cleveland even more!!! And, he has the best laugh in the World!

I would so much love to see him.

My pick would be Joel Robuchon, bc even at his high level of chefdom, he still understands the importance and advantage of keeping it simple and not overdoing it with his food.

My celebrity sous chef would be none other than Alton Brown. I refer to his books and recipes in my kitchen adventures all the time. He’s my culinary godfather.

I would choose Lady Gaga as my celebrity sous chef. She’s creative in her music and appearance so it may be interesting to see what she could do in a kitchen.

I would pick Chef David Chang of Momofuku in NYC. After living in the city for a number of years, he is my sister’s favorite chef. If he and I were to team up, my sister would come home and I get to see her and cook for her as well!!

Since this is my first time in Ohio that I will be around for the food show (I moved from MN last year) I am super excited to see and taste all that Cleveland has to offer!!

As for my sous chef I would have to pick Alton Brown or Bobby Flay. Alton because I think there is so much I could learn about the science of cooking, and Bobby because, well who can resist the wonderful spice that he puts into every dish? Plus everything he makes has my mouth watering, both on Boy meets Grill and the Throwdown!!

Hmmm, I guess Giada, but maybe just Nate from Lola… or, you know what, I’d like to cook with myself. Together our food would create a rift in the spacetime continuum, and you can’t beat that..

My celebrity sous chef would be Coach Byron Scott. Cooking is a team sport! I would love to see him transfer his coaching skills from the court to the kitchen along with his fellow players. The event sounds like a fun time and I appreciate the proceeds going back to an organization that does so much for our community!

Dietrich (I have a “rich” “diet”! LOL!)
